Rights of people- Fatwa 015: What Should I Do If I am in a Gathering Where Foul Language is Common?

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Question:
If I am in a gathering, with people I know, where foul language is common among them, not to mention backbiting and slandering others, am I sinful in being with them, even though I feel distressed by it?
On many occasions I have advised them, but only in simple words, and somewhat hesitantly. I pray to Allah to help me prevent this Munkar next time I see them engaging in it, by speaking more clearly and with greater confidence.
May Allah reward you with all good on our behalf.
Answer:
In The Name of Allah the Most Gracious the Most Merciful, and may peace and blessings be upon the best of messengers, Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, the truthful, the trustworthy, who fulfilled his promises.
Dear brother, if you have advised them and they didn’t listen, then don’t join their gatherings.
